AI Won’t Replace you

An Optimistic but Realistic piece on the future of AI and Jobs

AI Won’t Replace you

The media is having a field day scaring everyone with AI Doomsday. The starter pack? “ChatGPT just replaced this writer”, “He fired his marketer and Hired ChatGPT” and so on. To be honest I would also click.

The Goal of this Article/resource is to show the other side of the coin. What if AI won’t replace you? And no I’m not about to say “AI Won’t replace you, someone using AI Will”. I mean it's true but that just doesn’t make the average person feel at ease.

So here’s a balanced (tilted Optimism) view of AI and Jobs.

This article only covers the tech sector:
Writers
Designers
Marketers/salespeople
Developers
Digital Artists.

Also, I cover, A more realistic world If AI takes everyone’s Jobs.

Will AI Replace You?

Most likely yes but hear me out. Before I go into individual roles, AI will 100% mean a lot of people will lose jobs as companies will hire fewer people to manage the working AI.

It’ll also just lead to a scenario where only the best gets hired, which is a net positive since the general public just gets better services.

Writers (Written Content)

If you’re a writer, which I am (I Write an AI Newsletter), AI will to a certain extent replace you. Heck, ChatGPT can already replace you.

If you’re a fantastic writer, AI Won’t replace you. It’ll “promote” you to a manager/proofreader role. Now you prompt the AI on what to write, how to write, what tone to use, and what points to cover to convey the message.

In the same way as a Lead Writer, you tell human writers what to write and how to. I know what some people might be saying, but the human creativity.

If you’ve ever given ChatGPT something to do, you know it can get really creative with how it presents it to you.

How do you Prepare yourself?

As a writer learn how to prompt AIs to write perfect articles. Constantly challenge yourself to prompt ChatGPT or whatever AI, so that you don’t have to edit a single word and it’s still of very high quality (This is harder than you can imagine).

If possible gather a group of writer friends and challenge each other and proofread the AI's work.

Sales and Marketing

If you’re in the sales/marketing department, AI Can’t replace you directly.

When selling you need to have an actual conversation with a Human with real concerns (except the other person is also using ChatGPT lol). Now you can maybe be able to use AI to get through the sales process faster but completely automating the process is not gonna happen.

When have you ever met a person who was excited to text those bots companies use for customer support? Never! That's because people rather have a human help them, or else they check the FAQ.

The same goes for marketing, yes AI can generate social posts, and yes AI can probably at some point be able to reply to comments in a human-like way but again the baseline is;

YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO IT WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO DO IT.

Also ever tried generating posts with AI? After the 10th post or so it starts just regurgitating the same spill but in different words.

How do you Prepare yourself?

Generate and execute marketing plans with Only AI, from Visual to text creatives all with AI. Again it's all about your prompting.

Get so good that you can create a unique marketing plan with AI, as per a product. Use Design tools and AI creatives to execute the plan. If you become good at this you’ll be more than hireable.

Design

Here I mean functional design, not artistic design.

Designers like UI/UX designers have a unique advantage because design is so wide and style based that it's hard to create an AI that encapsulates all that, or we are far from it being widely available.

If the problem was just getting good designs then design templates should have eliminated the design industry a long long time ago, since you can get literally any style there.

How do you Prepare yourself?

There are very very few AI design tools and prompts but you can definitely begin exploring with Design tools that generate logos and figure out the best way to prompt them to give you exactly what you want.

A nice challenge would be to design a logo yourself, then prompt the tool (maybe MJ) to generate that exact logo.

Developers

AI is just not replacing devs, right now the hype is real but at the end of the day, devs are too crucial to be replaced by devs.

The only changes we might see here would be companies hiring fewer devs since one dev can do more if he knows how to prompt.

Another change would be the rise of “prompt developers” These are people who understand multiple languages and maybe can’t code complex apps but know how to prompt so well all they do is supervise and proofread the code for bugs.

The bottom line here is, you still need to learn to code.

How do you Prepare yourself?

Simply just incorporating GitHub Copilot will do a lot for your adaptability. Also becoming better at spotting errors would be crucial.

But in general, I don’t see AI taking away Devs.

Artistic fields

Low to mid-range Digital artists as we know it is definitely gone, as someone could easily get similar quality work from MJ.

Traditional paintings will forever be the same as the value is in the paint and emotions not how good it looks.

This is one field where I can’t really be optimistic, one because I don’t have first knowledge or friends who work in them and from the outside looking in it looks bland.

Now you have an idea of how your job could be replaced and how you could prepare yourself, I now just want to share some helpful resources.

A World Where AI Takes Every Job

It's 2050, we have AGI, we have humanoid robots, they can do everything, and no one is hiring humans anymore. We are too lazy compared to these robots. What do we do? Die broke? Die without purpose?

Personally, I don’t think this will happen, first off if the world gets to a place where every company just hires AGI Robots that are perfect, Governments will impose UBI and companies will fight for it. You might be thinking that companies want to make a profit and not care about humans, which is correct but they also need us to have some money to sell to us.

So they have to fight for some sort of UBI (Universal Basic Income), which will in turn force prices of goods down or mean UBI is high, and that’s a win for humanity. Now we can spend time doing whatever we love.

No one wants to work in an Office, so let the robots do that while you can decide to pursue a fulfilling life, whatever that means to you.

Is this a rosy look at things? yes, but it's a way more realistic viewpoint than the apocalypse world we’ve been told by the media.

Netflix needs you to pay a subscription to make a profit, Hell ChatGPT needs you to buy ChatGPT Plus to make a profit, and Governments also need you to make money so they can tax you. It’s in everyone’s best interest for humans to have some sort of stable income.

That’s it for this article hope you enjoyed it and it gave you at least a glimmer of hope for the future of AI. I’ll try my possible best to make this an ever-evolving piece or write a new version every couple of months cause of the quickly changing world of AI.
