GitHub CEO: Artificial intelligence will not replace developers
Tell us something we donāt know LMAOOO!, obviously, AI aināt replacing devs, no no never ( low-key paranoia)
On a recent trip to key markets in Asia, Dohmke (Founder of GitHub) granted an Interview to Computer Weekly and during the Interview he was asked the Quadrillion zimbabwe dollars Question about AI, ChatGPT and obviously Co-Pilot
āā¦weāve seen the potential of GPT3 and the conversations on how it can make it more efficient for developers to code. GitHub has similar capabilities in Copilot as well. Do you think AI will replace programmers and where do you see the future going for junior developers?ā
Dohmke: I think the next generation of developers will be used to AI and itās going to be incredible. Technologies such as ChatGPT will enable a new way of learning, so young developers can interact with AI and learn at their own pace, whether itās through tutorials or scripts in a predefined storyline.
It will also enable developers to be more productive, and weāve seen this in Copilot. When you start using Copilot, it doesnāt have any information about you, so it uses the Codex model, which is a subvariant of the GPT model, to suggest code to you. But as you type, if it suggests code you donāt like, you can reject it.
You donāt believe AI will replace developers someday?
Dohmke: No, and itās the same as how a self-driving car still needs to know where you want to go, and a script writer still has to write the story. Obviously, developers will still have to write the story and AI cannot do that. It will support the menial tasks and things like writing test cases will probably be unnecessary.
we aināt tripping, AI got nothing on devs, definitely not

ChatGPT gets an F- in a History test, using it to cheat on your college essays wonāt get you good grades, says professors
Ok professor surreeeee, but guess what??? last week I used ChatGPT to write my essay test and I got an A, my mum was so proud of meā¦ so say whatever you want but ChatGPT is making me a genius to everyone!
Mummy even thinks I could be the next Shakespeare
Twitter has had a field day saying all sorts about how ChatGPT is going top make the college essay OBSOLETE, since i can just easily ask ChatGPT to do it for me.
just like my trusted nerd buddy (definitely DONāT bully him to help me with my essays).
But some college professors aren't that concerned.
"I'm not a huge fan of the gloom and doom," said Professor Stuart Selber, who teaches English at Pennsylvania State University. "Every year or two, there's something that's ostensibly going to take down higher education as we know it. So far, that hasn't happened."
Selder said "You can go back a couple decades and find similar alarm over Word, Wikipedia, and the Internet in general,"
While ChatGPT's writing might seem "quite good in an abstract way", Selber thinks it struggles to address precise or local issues, generate an original argument, or interrogate other arguments rather than just citing them. These are all key aspects of effective essay writing in his opinion.
He doesnāt stand alone here as Dr. Jacqueline Antonovich, an Assistant Professor at Muhlenberg College, posted on Twitter saying she gave ChatGPT her midterm essays to write and that it produced "would earn an F. Probably an F- if that's possible."
I, a college history professor, input one of my midterm essay prompts in ChatGPT and the paper it produced would earn an F. Probably an F- if that's possible.

so professors think itāll make me fail but when i use itā¦I PASS sooooooooo yāall trying to use reverse psychology on us???
LMAO, itās not working
Top universities snap into action over AI cheating
oooohhhh the irony, Professors be like we are not scared of AI, also Universities proceed to begin placing measures to stop AI cheating, lol
Group of Eight (Go8), which comprises the University of Sydney, UNSW, Monash, UniMelb, UWA, ANU, the University of Queensland, and the University of Adelaide, is "proactively tackling the emergence of AI" through redesigning assessments and using new targeted detection strategies, Chief Executive Vicki Thomson said.
"Our universities have revised how they will run assessments in 2023," she said. This includes "Live+" exams for offshore and online students, in which a supervisor monitors their computer screen throughout, more in-person supervision for local students, and greater use of pen and paper exams and tests. They will also limit the use of "Record+" exams, in which a supervisor reviews the computer screen after the exam, for units with "low-integrity risks".
Some of these universities are also "specifically addressing AI in their academic integrity policies and/or their student Code of Conduct", meaning if students breach policies they can be marked down or failed.
A Sydney University spokesperson said: "At the moment, weāve seen very few cases where AI is suspected, and the work has been of a very low standard that would not achieve a pass mark. However, we know that could change and are preparing accordingly".
A lot was said by different representatives of the Universities part of the Go8 about how they plan to prevent the use of AI to cheat on exams and it looks like they are using the current state of ChatGPT to make their rules instead of where itās going.
Go8 seems to be relying on the fact that the current chatGPT doesnāt really flow great when writing essays, it has a dry tone and doesnāt propose arguments to various data points buuuuuttt also forgetting chatGPT is only getting better so all these will be ironed out over time
The war between the educational system and AI should be a fun one to watch, AI is currently winning the Battle though
