Sam Altman Talks about GPT-4

At a talk hosted by VC newsletter StrictlyVC, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said they'll only release GPT-4 when they can do it safely and responsibly. This makes sense as there’re still ethical issues with some GPT 3 decisions, especially with how it sometimes gives out false information with confidence.

Getty Images is Suing Stable Diffusion 

Getty Images claims Stability AI ‘unlawfully’ scraped millions of images from its site.

In a press statement shared with The Verge, the stock photo company said it believes that Stability AI “unlawfully copied and processed millions of images protected by copyright” to train its software and that Getty Images has “commenced legal proceedings in the High Court of Justice in London” against the firm.

It’s a significant escalation in the developing legal battles between generative AI firms and content creators.

Lecturer detects ChatGPT use in one-fifth of assessments 

Of 54 summer postgraduate assessments Sally Brandon marked, 10 had "significant, detectable bot assistance" - the highest rate in the five years she has used software to detect bots.

Brandon is awaiting confirmation as to whether the results of her bot detector will count as a formal breach of academic integrity.

“It’s still learning and the more we play with it, the more it learns,” Brandon said.

“The big issue is how do educators revise assessments in light of this technology – which is not going away – so that we can fairly and accurately assess student competencies.

“I’m looking at how it could be incorporated in learning design and how assessment needs to be revised to account for its use.”

The development gives enterprises access to OpenAI's APIs (GPT-3, Whisper, and the ChatGPT API when released) built into Microsoft's enterprise-grade cloud services. Companies like Al Jazeera Digital, CarMax, and Moveworks have been beta-testing the service. They've mostly been using GPT-3 to summarize customer feedback and spin it into new content.

Microsoft has not missed this month.
