Microsoft Is Going All In on AI

yesterday Microsoft had its earnings call and we got some interesting words from the big boss Satya

Looks like Microsoft hit a bit of a rough patch last quarter, missing revenue estimates, and things aren't looking too hot for next quarter either. But don't let that get you down, because according to the big boss, the age of AI is here and Microsoft is leading the charge!

They've got super powerful AI computing in the cloud, with Azure OpenAI Service available for all, and already 200 customers are on board, including heavyweights like KPMG and Al Jazeera. Plus, with 100 million developers on GitHub "And GitHub Copilot is the first at-scale AI product built for this era...More than one million people have used Copilot to date. ", it's clear Microsoft is positioning itself as the go-to destination for all things AI. And get ready, because according to Satya, every app is going to be an AI app in the future, so brace yourself for an AI-riffic future with Microsoft at the helm.

So Basically, While Facebook, sorry meta are working on dominating 3D humans, Microsoft is working on dominating AI.

17% of Stanford Students Surveyed Used ChatGPT on Final Exams

According to an informal poll conducted by The Daily, which had 4,497 respondents and was open from Jan. 9 to Jan. 15, around 17% of Stanford student respondents reported using ChatGPT to assist with their fall quarter assignments and exams.

Of that 17%, a majority reported using AI only for brainstorming and outlining. Only about 5% reported having submitted written material directly from ChatGPT with little to no edits, according to the poll.

Are A.I. Image Generators Violating Copyright Laws?

Getty Images has initiated legal proceedings against Stability AI, the maker of Stable Diffusion. Stability AI was also named as a defendant in a class action lawsuit filed in a United States federal court in San Francisco by three visual artists on behalf of the visual arts community.

Both lawsuits argue that by scraping the web for images, A.I. image generators unjustly rob artists, using their work without crediting or rewarding them.

“The harm to artists is not hypothetical—works generated by A.I. Image Products ‘in the style’ of a particular artist are already sold on the internet, siphoning commissions from the artists themselves,” the class action lawsuit states. The plaintiffs “seek to end this blatant and enormous infringement of their rights before their professions are eliminated by a computer program powered entirely by their hard work.”

Shutterstock Introduces Generative AI

Looks like Shutterstock's been getting cozy with some major players in the AI game, like OpenAI, Meta, and LG AI Research. And let me tell you, they've been cooking up something real special. They're now serving up generative AI capabilities with a side of ethics and diversity! According to the CEO, Paul Hennessy, it's so easy to use, you don't even need to be a design expert or have a creative team to whip up something amazing. He also said, “we ensure that the artists whose works contributed to the development of these models are recognized and rewarded."

Using “Temperature” To make ChatGPT more Creative

Was sipping my morning tea, while reading the news and scrolling through Reddit, after hitting the Iron Paradise, when I saw this:

Basically, you can set the temperature of ChatGPT, ranging from 0 to 1 with 0 being conservative and 1 being creative.

So if you’re writing an article or trying to get ideas from ChatGPT, and you don’t want to get the generic reply everyone using ChatGPT will get, set the temperature higher, and viola you have a more creative response

Here’s how to use it explained by ChatGPT itself

We’ll be writing a full-on article about ChatGPT parameters in a bit.

Note: Keep in mind that OpenAI is constantly updating ChatGPT to prevent this kind of prompt, so if it doesn’t work the first time, try tweaking it a bunch of times.
